Dances, Homecomings, & School Fall Festivals

Posted by Wendy Moyle on September 13, 2011

As we head into a new school year and change of seasons, so too we enter a different phase of the social whirl. Here are some handy pages and products to help you get ready for football, Homecoming dances and parades, fundraisers and other school-related fall functions.

Banners & Signs
No matter what fall school event you’re planning, you’ll need to advertise it on campus and maybe off. Weather-resistant vinyl banners come in seven sizes and are customizable with background color and design, font and text color, and graphic design or logo at minimum. You can add a photo to many banner designs, and grommets assure you can hang them anywhere. Shop for you banners by theme, holiday or special occasion. Don’t miss our banners made especially for school, too.

You could also add event information to a photorealistic backdrop or mural background.  Depending on the size you need, you have choice of material as well: vinyl, “photo real” cardboard or mural paper. We have several fall-themed backdrops and murals to set rural scenes in gorgeous autumn color.

Carnivals & Fundraising
Fall festivals and carnivals at school celebrate back-to-school but also have a fundraising function. You will want to select fall party supplies to create the seasonal mood, but don’t stop there; also visit our school event fundraiser and carnival party pages for craft, game and prize ideas.

Fall Party Decorations
For fall-themed parties and dances, we recommend bringing the outdoors in. Start with one of the backdrops mentioned above, festoon the room in fall leaves garland and add made-to-order cornstalk standees, an arch for an entrance or focal point (such as the one pictured, or use Create-An Arch Fall), and maybe a stand-alone faux fire pit as well!

Fall leaves Gleam’N Burst centerpieces coordinate well with the foil leaves garland. Place the centerpieces on chocolate brown table covers and finish your tables with our new Harvest Basket patterned tableware or tableware value packs from catering supplies.

Football Party Decorations
Watch for opportunities to customize the football decorations you find on these pages. A big Helmet Memories mural, Custom Creation arch, and giant football and helmet standees are ready to be personalized for Homecoming parties.

If you are shopping for collegiate football party supplies for Homecoming, you should know that Shindigz.com carries football party supplies for 29 NCAA teams!

Spirit items make naturally good party favors for football party events.

Parade Float Decorations
It’s never too early to finalize plans for that fall festival or Homecoming parade float, and to start shopping for materials. Metallic fringe and floral sheeting come in all the popular team colors, and readymade football float components give you a head start on a professional look. We can even help you give the team mascot a makeover! Just start from football party supplies to jump to float decorations, mascots, fan gear and more.

Plan a Vampire Theme Event

Posted by Wendy Moyle on August 31, 2011

We know that vampires nowadays are romantic figures and popular year ‘round, but we still appreciate them especially near Halloween. We also know they tend to love the good life! So when we do the monster math, it comes to this: You can combine romance and easy elegance with a hot vampire theme event for Halloween, a fall fundraiser or a Homecoming dance.

Past and current vampire lore is full of places and objects from which you can derive a theme: New Orleans settings, full moons, and red apples, just to name a few. Visit Vampire party supply decorations for ideas. Then choose your colors! A formal black-and-white color scheme with red accents is dramatic, as is red-and-black with accessories of gold. You might also stray from tradition to evoke, say, a forest at midnight with dark brown and cool greens.

Invitations & Banners: Announce the Date with Damask
To our undying delight, we offer damask designs to match any vampire theme event plan, depending upon the mood you wish to set.

The Fangtastic invitation brings full-on camp, complete with blood and fangs dripping upon a gray-on-black damask pattern. Look for balloons and tableware in this design also.

Formal damask personalized banners and invitations can be customized with your wording and choice of font plus 36 color options for text, pattern and background.

Enchanted Forest Elegance invitations display beautiful, delicate green damasks on dark brown, and you can customize matching banners with a photo or logo.

Glampire Party Supplies: Just the Glam, Ma’am
Vampires and romance meet in a new, unexpected and posh presentation with new Glampire party supplies, as seen in the photo above. Decorate a large vamp venue in arches and columns of red roses or glitter fabrics, black balloons and a few bat silhouette cutouts for good measure.

Glampire lighting calls for lots of candlelight. Be sure to check out our selection of LED candles.

Finishing Touches: Bring Humor to the Table
Of course we know that neither romantic nor elegant equals stuffy. Bring a couple unexpected and humorous touches to a vampire theme event via your bar and tables. They’ll be talking about them for days!

  • Wrap Vampire Elegance or other Halloween personalized bottle labels around bottles of the “house red” or other potions of your choice.

  • Drip melted red wax or crayons on white candles to make them look like they are bleeding. (Put “safely melt crayons for dripping” in your search engine to find out how.) Place the “bleeding” candles in our black candelabras for table display.

  • Make old fashioned Halloween party favors, such as wax fangs, a part of place settings.

  • Stock the bar with syringe shot glasses, punny cocktail napkins and other Halloween tableware items.

    Plan a Halloween Themed Fundraiser

Posted by Wendy Moyle on August 3, 2011

Do you have an October fundraising event? Work a Halloween theme and Halloween party decorations into your fall fundraiser this year. Bring something fresh to annual fairs and festivals with newer products such as personalized bottle labels, or try one of the more unusual fundraising ideas below.

    Say Boo with Your Booth
For an indoor Halloween themed carnival fundraiser, check out the Radiant Halloween balloon arch from Halloween props. The arch helps you create a happy, festive entrance that is rated “E” for “Everyone.” As always with our Radiant arches, you have balloon color choices. If the fundraiser really must be geared more generally to fall, select candy corn or autumn leaf colors instead of orange and black.

For festival and tailgate fundraising, set up a fuss-free outdoor canopy. Be sure to weight the corners adequately to stand up to errant autumn breezes.

Hang a custom Halloween banner across the top of the canopy and sell bottles of blood-red soda with personalized Halloween bottle labels and matching Halloween candy bars.

    Plot a Scavenger Scheme
A road rally is a scavenger hunt on wheels, and it is becoming a popular fundraising event. It’s a cute idea as a fundraiser for a transportation-related cause, such as a school bus trip or Meals on Wheels, and highly amenable to a Halloween theme party. Donations are collected as registration fees.

Just for fun, pick a theme with a mascot or conveyance that gets around: witches and brooms, vampires and bats, headless horsemen and jack-o-lanterns. Plant thematic Halloween party favors and props – especially wearables — on the scavenger list; and keep up the theme on snack tables for the gathering afterward.

    Plan a Murder
This type of Halloween fundraiser can come formal or informal, costumed or not, but one thing is clear: Halloween adds an extra shiver to a murder mystery party.

Select a murder mystery kit from the many available online, and then come to Shindigz.com for the setting decorations. Whether your murder is committed in a 1920s Chicago speakeasy or at a fancy masked ball, you’ll find beautiful themed decorations and plenty of assistance.

Complete the look by outfitting the players in accessories and Create-A Costume pieces from Halloween Costumes.

    Thrill the World
If you can plan a Halloween fundraiser for Halloween weekend 2011, consider a tie-in to Thrill the World, a global celebration of zombie unity and of Michael Jackson’s video, “Thriller,” expressed through dance. Visit Thrilltheworld.com for more information on the dance and to officially register your event.

Participating organizations are encouraged to use their events to support charities. Raise funds via “Thriller” dance workshops, costume contest entree fees, or a donations-at-the-door monster bash decorated with Halloween party supplies such as our smashing cemetery and zombie silhouettes and new Beware Zombie tableware.
