Tips for Halloween Carnival Festivities

Posted by Wendy Moyle on August 27, 2007

Bean Bag Toss GameHalloween is a time full of fun activities, games and of course costumes. Put together a Halloween carnival or fall festival for your students, neighborhood kids or any other group to bring out all the fun of Halloween in a safe environment.

Before planning games for your Halloween carnival, decide how large an event you want it to be, what age group you are planning it for and whether or not you want to have costumes at the carnival.

If you decide to make it a costume party as well as a carnival, having a costume contest is a fun idea. Kids get really into dressing up for Halloween, so they’ll love the chance to win a prize for it. (Check out our Costume Party TipZ for more ideas.)

You can hold your Halloween carnival in your basement, garage, yard, town hall, school gym, community center, anywhere!

Set up games for kids to play. You can let them play whatever they want or sell tickets for them to use to play the games. Some fun carnival games include:

• A beanbag toss
• A milk-bottle toss. Set up milk bottles in a pyramid shape and let kids knock them over with softballs.
• Bozo game. This one is trickier than it looks and was made famous by the TV clown. Kids should try to toss a ping-pong ball into one of several small jars. The smaller the mouth of the jar, the harder it will be. Ping-pong balls will bounce out of jars too!
• Gone fishin’. Kids toss a fishing line with a clothespin attached over a cardboard barrier. ON the other side, volunteers clip a prize to the line and toss it back. This is a fun game for little kids.
• Duck pond. Write numbers on the bottom of rubber ducks and float them in a wading pool. Kids pick up the ducks and win prizes according to the number they pick.
• Lollipop Tree. Stick suckers into a board with small holes cut in it. Color the tips of the sticks in different colors. Kids pick suckers and keep them, plus a prize depending on the color they pulled.
• Football toss. Kids take turns trying to throw a football through a tire.
• Cake walk.
• Creepy guessing game. Place bowls of food such as grapes (eyeballs), carrots (fingers), macaroni (brains), etc., behind a piece of cloth and let kids guess what they’re touching.

Stock up on Halloween favors and candy. Give prizes to kids for participating or just to the winners, depending on the age group. Kids will love winning prizes and their parents will love the fun their kids will have.

For mood music throughout the carnival, check out a CreepShow CD!

Which Decorations are the Coolest? Witches!

Posted by Wendy Moyle on August 13, 2007

Flying-Witch-Wall-GraphicFrom Samantha Stephens to Hermione Granger and all the spooky witches before them, witches are a favorite emblem of Halloween. Witches adorn invitations, banners, windows, Trick-or-Treaters and more. These witch decorations will have your guests cackling!

Decorate your home, office or Halloween party with bewitching style. Start off by adorning your door with a witch hat and broom entrance. It’s the perfect way to welcome guest or have the coolest house on the Trick-or-Treat route. A Halloween Balloon Arch is another great option.

Hang a witch hat personalized banner to send a custom message. These banners are printed on heavy-duty weather-resistant vinyl, so they can stand up to the October blusters. Banners are available in seven different sizes with or without metal grommets.

The crashing witch yard sign and witch hat lantern make great accents for your home décor. Bat lights are great complements to your witch decorations too.

For a scarier look, try a hanging witch. This illuminated black and gray witch is over 5′ high and 36″ wide. Decoration includes LED light for glowing eyes! Yikes!

Add clusters of balloons around your home or party space and keep them grounded with a spider balloon weight.

You can bring the witching look to your tables too with witch personalized beverage napkins and hand out favors with our witch finger pens. There are so many witch products to choose from!

Don’t forget to check out the large selection of adult and kids’ witch costumes!

Posted by Wendy Moyle on August 9, 2007

Devil-Dog-CostumeIf your dog loves the excitement and visitors of Halloween, dress him or her up to greet Trick-or-Treaters or hit the town!

Pet costumes are available in sizes ranging from lap dogs to large dogs and are great for adding the finishing touch to your family costume or the perfect side kick.

Your dog can be a superhero with Batman and Superman dog costumes or a villain with a devil dog costume.

For girly dogs, try a princess or pink princess dog costume.

The Star Wars enthusiast will love Star Wars dog costumes—Dart Vader, Yoda, or Princess Lei.

A pirate dog costume is really something to treasure.

Your pooch might not love dressing up as much as you love dressing him up, but these pet costumes are sure to be a Halloween hit!
